Amazon Key: A new service to deliver just inside your front door



Amazon just introduced Amazon Key. With this new service, you can get your packages directly delivered just inside your front door. It relies on Amazon’s new Cloud Cam and a compatible smart lock from leading lock manufacturers Kwikset and Yale.On delivery day, a courier first scans the bar code which will send a request to Amazon’s cloud. The cloud then grants permission and turn on the Amazon Cloud Cam that will start recording. The courier gets a prompt on his smartphone to unlock the door so that he can drop off the package, and another one to re-lock the door. Meanwhile, the customer gets a notification that their package has arrived. Note that the courier is instructed to always knock on the door before requesting to unlock it.All this raises many questions. By far the most important one: will the benefits from this service be enough to get rid of privacy and security concerns that customers might have?

Sophia: The First Robot Citizen


Saudi Arabia made a robot called Sophia a citizen, making it the first country that bestows citizenship on a robot. Sophia is a humanoid robot created by Hanson Robotics that combines the latest advances in both AI and Robotics. It is getting smarter every day by talking to us: “every interaction I have with people has an impact on how I develop and shapes who I eventually become. So please be nice to me as I would like to be a smart, compassionate robot”. She is also able to looks, talks, and mimics human expressions.Journalists noted that Sophia has been recognised as a citizen whereas migrant workers that have been there for their entire lives have not. This might be the beginning of a new era where humans will envy robots, especially if these robots are taking our jobs which should happen sooner or later. It is very important that we work in tandem with intelligent machines, and not against them.
